Title: Foundry Operator

Description Job Summary:

Foundry Operators are responsible for the molding, pouring, and finishing of aerospace permanent and sand mold castings using mechanical and manual methods.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

• Move and position tooling into molding equipment (Large and Small Cope and Drag, Snap, No Bake and Hunter lines) using manual or mechanical methods (cranes, lifts, etc.); 
• Sift and pack sand into mold sections and patterns using hands or pneumatic ramming tools;
• Position cores into molds;
• Assemble molds for pouring;
• Sprinkle or spray parting agents onto patterns and mold sections to facilitate removal of pattern from molds;
• Cut spouts, runner holes, and sprue holes into molds;
• Assemble filters and sprues into the mold;
• Remove castings from their sand molds using mechanical and manual methods to established processes in a manner that will not affect the casting quality;
• Assist molders by preparing and delivering materials needed for molding (cores, sprues, filters, etc.);
• Assist melters in the preparation of metal and the movement of molds on the Sand Deck;
• Work to establish standards and processes;
• Prepare molding sand using the green sand muller or dry sand system;
• Control and test the quality of molding sand using established processes;
• Assist in areas of the foundry including core making, and sand testing, etc.;
• Ensure compliance with all safety requirements;
• Problem solve issues with product, furnaces, and equipment; 
• Maintain a safe, clean, and organize molding area; 
• Maintain, organize, control, inventory supplies, spare parts, tools, and equipment;
• Conduct Preventative Maintenance per Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) schedules; 
• Perform other duties as assigned by management. 

Job Qualifications:

The right candidate:

• Must exhibit understanding and commitment to US Castings’ Core Values;
• High School diploma or equivalent;
• Experience in an AS9100 or ISO 9001 certified foundry a plus;
• Must be physically able to move, push, pull and lift at least 50 pounds;
• Basic computer literacy skills required for timekeeping entry and process control data entry;
• Must be flexible and willing to adapt their schedule to meet business demands;
• Must be willing to learn and acquire new skills;
• Weekends and holidays may be necessary; 
• Must be willing to work in a foundry type environment;
• Constant walking, standing, pushing, pulling, carrying, lifting, kneeling, bending, stooping, and moving during working hours, and
• The successful candidate will be required to pass a drug and hearing test to maintain a safe work environment.
